Defender signs initial two-year contract to join from Walsall

Sheffield United have confirmed the signing of promising defender Darryl Westlake from League One rivals Walsall.

Sky Sports revealed earlier in the week that Blades manager Danny Wilson was poised to make Westlake his first permanent signing of the summer.

The 21-year-old had rejected a new contract at Walsall and, due to his age, the Blades will have to pay compensation for his signature.

The Blades have confirmed on their official website that a two-year contract, with the option of a further 12 months, has been agreed.

Westlake made 78 appearances for the Saddlers after making his debut in August 2009 and his arrival at Bramall Lane will help to fill the void created by Matt Lowton's recent move to Aston Villa.

He joins John Cofie as a new addition to Wilson's squad after the Manchester United youngster arrived on a season-long loan.

m not sure about this distance covered malarky, plus that stat comes with *since February attached to it, that's just 1 month. I mean I have 27 open cases I'm 'working on' at the moment but believe me others with 10 cases work harder than I do. I just got back from a pub lunch, scampi and chips (+4 pints) in case you were wondering.
