Perfect boss

Huddersfield hotshot James Vaughan is profiting from having a former striker as his manager.

Robins has aided goal-getter Vaughan, says Mackail-Smith

That's what Brighton's injured frontman Craig Mackail-Smith told FL72-Preview after the former Everton and Norwich forward notched his ninth goal in as many appearances during the Terriers' 2-1 win over Charlton on Tuesday evening.

Vaughan was signed by Huddersfield boss Mark Robins for a reported fee of £1million in July following a successful loan spell at the John Smith's Stadium last term during which time he netted 14 times in the Championship.

And Mackail-Smith - who is currently sidelined by an Achilles injury - says the 25-year-old is flourishing under the guidance of Robins, who played as a centre-forward for clubs including Manchester United, Norwich and Leicester.

"To have a manager who knows what service [Vaughan] needs, what runs to make, and who can give him that advice is great - and it is obviously working because he is banging the goals in," said the Scottish international.

"He has had a hard time with injuries, but he is a big strong lad, he is quick and he is a great header of the ball, and I think he will keep it going and be up there with the top scorers this season."

Outstanding

Huddersfield's Championship rivals Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, look primed to capture Chelsea youngster Nathaniel Chalobah on loan as they step up their attempts to reach the Premier League for the first time since 1997.

Midfielder Chalobah, 18, was a vital cog for Watford during the 2012/13 campaign, helping the Hornets play some seductive football and reach the Championship play-off final at Wembley.

And Mackail-Smith says the Sierra Leone-born starlet - who represented the England Under-21 side during this summer's European Championships in Israel - could make a huge impact for the City Ground brood.

"Chalobah was outstanding for Watford last season along with Troy Deeney and Matej Vydra and if he does go to Forest that will make them very strong as they already have some great players with Andy Reid and Henri Lansbury in midfield," said the onetime Peterborough man.

However, Mackail-Smith is still backing Harry Redknapp's cash-happy QPR to make their latest stint in the Championship a fleeting one.

But he also thinks Nigel Clough's Derby - who have taken 10 points from a possible 12 away from home - are a team to watch.

"I think QPR will be up there with the squad they've got, but when we played Derby this season they were outstanding so I think they could be a surprise package," he added.

h Daniel. I could spend hours on this subject putting the world to rights. You can even take a step back and ask why football fans (and society in general) have this need to know that something will happen before it actually does. There are times this important, when it comes to things like war, food production and natural disasters. A man you've never met changing his job? Not so much.

reat article. Hits the nail on the head. Encapsulates why I don't read tabloid newspapers anymore. The only thing worse is the 'told you so first' headline when they get lucky.
