Malky Mackay: Hoping his Cardiff team can stay top of the Championship

Cardiff are at Derby; Hull host Palace; Posh look to move off bottom

It's a busy period in the Championship with all 24 teams in action again in midweek.

League leaders Cardiff travel to Derby aiming to maintain their promotion push with three points at Pride Park.

The home side go into the game boosted by Nathan Tyson's late winner against Birmingham in front of the Sky Sports cameras on Saturday evening.

And if Nigel Clough's men can get anything from the game that could allow Ian Holloway's Crystal Palace side to take advantage and move back to the top of the table with a win at Hull.

Hull would close the gap on the Eagles to just two points with a win of their own and will be optimistic after seeing their opponents lose at Leeds at the weekend.

Leeds themselves host another promotion-chasing side on Tuesday when they take on third-place Leicester.

That means all of the top three are on the road and could present an opening for Middlesbrough as they have a home clash with Huddersfield.

Form

The remaining member of the top six is form-team Millwall and they travel to Molineux to take on a Wolves side on a horrible sequence of eight games without a win under new boss Stale Solbakken.

Ex-Wolves boss Mick McCarthy sees his Ipswich side entertain Nottingham Forest - the team he rejected the opportunity to join in the summer.

Ipswich will find themselves back at the bottom of the table if Peterborough can better their result when they visit Charlton.

That's because Bristol City finally found a win at the weekend and they'll be desperate to build on that with another good result at Brighton.

The remaining Tuesday fixtures see Sheffield Wednesday, who have lost four on the bounce, host Watford, while Burnley travel to face Barnsley.

There is one game on Wednesday and that sees two of the relegated Premier League sides from last season, Blackburn and Bolton, face each other at Ewood Park.

Both clubs have replaced their managers already this season and Blackburn's Henning Berg and Bolton's Dougie Freedman will be looking to kickstart their respective seasons by getting one over on their Lancashire rivals.

h Daniel. I could spend hours on this subject putting the world to rights. You can even take a step back and ask why football fans (and society in general) have this need to know that something will happen before it actually does. There are times this important, when it comes to things like war, food production and natural disasters. A man you've never met changing his job? Not so much.

reat article. Hits the nail on the head. Encapsulates why I don't read tabloid newspapers anymore. The only thing worse is the 'told you so first' headline when they get lucky.
