Thompson hopes to get job

Caretaker boss Steve Thompson hopes results like the 2-1 win at Wolves will do his chances of becoming Blackpool manager no harm.

Steve Thompson: Win at Molineux helps his case for full-time role

Thompson is in temporary charge at Bloomfield Road for the second time this season, this time replacing Michael Appleton, and he was thrilled with his side's comeback after conceding the lead to a Sylvan Ebanks-Blake goal.

Not for the first time this season, it was Tom Ince to the rescue with a couple of goals, with his 25-yard winner a fitting way to cap the comeback.

"It is not going to do me any harm to get results," Thompson said. "I have always said that if it is me, fantastic. If it is not I will just hold the fort until somebody else comes in here.

"But whoever gets it has got a special bunch of players there. Karl (Oyston, Blackpool's chairman) knows the situation at the moment and it is in his court.

"I have always said that I am ready to be a number one. I would be chuffed to bits if I got a number one. But at the end of the day it is Karl's choice. He will do what is best for Blackpool."

Thompson also admitted it would be out of his hands whether the club decides to cash in on Ince, who has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool.

He added: "I have heard the speculation but everything has a price. You see certain players going for big money and he is just as good as them.

"So if he is going to go, he is not going to go cheap. He is a special talent. If Tom goes, he goes, and he has earned it because he has been fantastic.

"He is still a little baby really and still has a lot to learn. But he has an end product and goals. If someone comes in they will get a special player but we are not going to give special players away for cheap at Blackpool."
