Pearson left to rue late error

Leicester boss Nigel Pearson was left to rue what might have been after Tom Ince's late penalty cost his side maximum points in a 2-2 draw at Blackpool.

Chris Basham's first-half header had put the Seasiders in front at Bloomfield Road but the Foxes struck back after the interval.

A penalty from Paul Konchesky and an absolute stunner from Andy King were the first goals Blackpool have conceded at home this season.

But just when it looked like Leicester had done enough to claim victory, Kaspar Schmeichel felled Gary MacKenzie in the box and Ince kept his cool to fire home, much to Pearson's disgust.

"It doesn't feel great, it's tough to take a late goal like that but that's football," he said.

"I don't expect players to be flawless. Sometimes they cost you and other times they don't.

"I've always got a pretty balanced view on things. I don't over praise or over criticise.

"What I say in the dressing room stays there. Our players are trying their best and sometimes mistakes happen.

"We didn't quite have the same fluency but I didn't expect that after the run of fixtures we've had over the last week.

"The second goal was a super goal. When you can score quick goals like we did it changes the complexion of the game, but a draw is disappointing.

"There were some very good aspects to our game though. It's all about whether you can sustain form and win games when you're not at your best.

"Season on season that's borne out that it's not always the slickest sides that win matches, it's sides that are efficient during the tricky spells."

From Blackpool's point of view a share of the spoils was a relief after Tuesday's shock defeat to strugglers Millwall had ended their unbeaten start to the season.

But first-team coach Steve Thompson admitted that there were still plenty of areas for improvement, despite Ince's late leveller.

"We had a mad five minutes. You can't give Leicester those sorts of chances to get back in the game," he said.

"It was a rash tackle for the penalty and a wonder strike and it changed the game.

"It was a bit gung-ho at the end of the game. We had lads throwing long balls into the box and we used that to our advantage and got a bit of luck at the end with Tom putting the penalty away.

"We dug in, showed our reserves of fitness and spirit and got ourselves a good point against a good Leicester team.

"They had a spell where they penned us in our half and we needed an outlet to give us a breather. You see Leicester - they've got quality in all departments. You have to keep compact and hit them on the break."

terling needs to be told though that upon entering the Arsenal squad he will re-enact the final scene from Highlander where he will be thrown around a warehouse by cartoon dragons and then be a mere mortal that will only ever spend three to four weeks a season playing football and the rest on the physio's bed. There can be only one.....player available at The Emirates.

he game changed in our favour when Carrick came on. We were able to play further up the pitch due to having a player who can give and go with the ball and keep possession. Yet barkley made some runs and Townsend scored a good goal but carrick's inclusion and chiellini's withdrawal made the biggest difference to the flow of the game

o, you've not silenced anyone Andros, i'm afraid. We know you can score a great goal, and it's really handy to have your direct running and willingness to shoot on the bench. But until you can do the other things expected of a winger (beat the man, put a decent cross in, stay wide etc) then you can't expect more than a regular cameo. Wonderful goal though, what a hit! No wonder Buffon wanted the shirt.
