The Blackpool keeper is the fifth player lost to Strachan since Friday's 0-0 draw with the USA at Hampden.

Leeds United striker Ross McCormack returned to Elland Road on Monday morning after sustaining a hamstring injury in training.

Blackburn defender Grant Hanley, Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher and versatile Celtic player Charlie Mulgrew all returned to their clubs over the weekend.

Strachan said: "Matt is another one away. Ross is away back. He has a tightness in his hamstring and we are taking no chances whatsoever with tightness."

McCormack is confident he will be fit to play in Saturday's Championship clash for Leeds against Middlesbrough though.

"Heading back to Leeds having had to pull out the Scotland squad. Typical," McCormack said through a social network site.

"Just need another 24 hours for this to settle. I'll be fit for Boro 100%. And can't wait for it."
