Angel Rangel: Hailed influence of Spanish players in Swansea squad

Pablo Hernandez, Chico Flores and Michu helped lead Michael Laudrup's men to a ninth-place finish and a first major trophy via the Capital One Cup in the 2012/13 campaign.

And Rangel, who has made over 250 appearances for Swansea, paid a glowing tribute to his fellow countrymen.

"It has been a pleasure to play with them. On the pitch they are top players, and off the pitch they are a very good group of lads," said Rangel.

"The Spanish influence at the club has been very important in the club's success, going back to when Roberto (Martinez) was here as a player.

"It's great to see Swansea City having such a strong connection with Spain.

"I'm really enjoying it here and the other Spanish lads feel very comfortable and settled here. We spend quite a lot of time together."

Rangel, who joined the Welsh outfit in 2007, added that Michu proved a vital key to the success of the team last season.

"Michu affects you not just in terms of his goals, but it's also his workrate on and off the ball. He goes for it 100 per cent - he is not afraid of anything," added the 30-year-old.

"When you see a player like that, it motivates you even more. It's great to see the passion he has."

was there, it was embarrassing - the team looked totally unbalanced from the off, the defence was woeful and when Mikel came off injured it got even worse with nobody in front of them. Up front on several occasions we had opportunities and nobody would shoot - it was a complete farse! On the back of Salah's performance I'm glad there is talk of getting shot...

reat to see Tommy Rosicky getting some love. A wonderful player. Such a pity we lost so long to injury. I was so excited when we signed him, this resurgence only makes the absences seem more of a lost opportunity.
