Michael Laudrup: In confident mood ahead of Malmo game

The Welsh side last tasted European action in 1981 when Monaco knocked them out of the now defunct European Cup Winners' Cup.

But after a successful season that saw them defeat Bradford City to win the Capital One Cup, Laudrup is looking for them to impress against their Swedish opponents.

"It's an early start for us, but we're well prepared," Laudrup told the club's official website.

"We are up against a good side that are in the middle of their domestic season, so they will be match fit.

"They have also played a lot of games with the same group of players, so they are comfortable with one another but I have great confidence in my squad. It's a two-legged game, and it isn't all about tomorrow.

"Of course we'll try and win the game but it is important not to concede any away goals as well because they can prove crucial."

The tie comes before Swansea kick-off their Premier League campaign against Manchester United on 17 August but Laudrup sees that as a positive.

"We can also use this as preparation for the Premier League and that competition remains our main focus because that is where we want to consolidate as a club," he added.

"It's great to have these two games before we play Manchester United. For me, it's no problem.

"But playing in Europe is always special because you come up against players and teams you're not used to.

"It is an important competition for us because we want to reach the group stages, and even during the first game we have to look ahead to the second leg as well."

think that puts all doubts over Benteke's quality to bed. Can he do it after receiving the ball to feet, in the box, totally unmarked, on a warm, sunny afternoon in Swindon? Oh yes he can! This year is definitely Liverpool's year. YNWA.

ll very well selling all midfield and strikers but unless we bring anyone in that is better than what we had then it will be a terrible transfer window in my view. Sorted out the defense but our midfield and striker options look very light.

ove it when Jose accuses others of being defensive, cynical and playing to win. If I was Wenger, I'd get that quote laminated and framed - surely the biggest compliment he's ever received from Mourinho. You've got him riled Arsene - you're relevant again!
