Monk nonplussed by Koeman talk

Swansea City boss Garry Monk insists he is not affected by rumours linking Ronald Koeman with his job at the Liberty Stadium.

Koeman's agent has made it clear the former Barcelona star is keen to take over the Swans but Monk, who was last month appointed head coach for the "foreseeable future", is staying focused on the job in hand.

He said: "I don't care - it doesn't affect me.

"This is the business we are in. Players and managers will always be linked with other clubs, but I can't worry about that.

"Names will always be linked when a manager changes, and I guess this shows that everyone wants to work in the Premier League.

"But I just have to focus on what I am doing, and that always means the next game.

"We play West Brom next and this is definitely one of those defining games in the season. We are at home, in front of our fans, and we have to put a performance in."

Monk has claimed five points from his four league games in charge so far but remains in the dark over whether he will continue in his position beyond the end of the season.

"I have not held any deep talks with the chairman," Monk added.

"I speak to him every day, he comes to training quite a lot and he sees the way we work but in terms of going on past this season, no I have not had any chats with the chairman."

Swansea host fellow strugglers West Brom this weekend in a game which Monk feels will be crucial to the Welsh club's survival prospects.

"You get defining games throughout season, and this is definitely one of them," he said.

"We want the three points and so do West Brom. "It's a good game, a big game, but we're in front of our home fans and it is important that we put on a performance to get the win."

There is a chance that West Brom will come up against Michu, who is close to full fitness following a three-month ankle injury layoff.

"He's trained well this week," Monk said. "We've been assessing him every day and we tailor the training it to him. He has taken part in most of the sessions this week.

"He's been great and looked sharp on Thursday and we'll make a judgement on him on Friday."

One player that definitely is fit for Swansea is Pablo Hernandez after scans on his hamstring allayed fears over another lay-off.

"Pablo is a very good player and I like him a lot," Monk told the South Wales Evening Post.

"I think he can offer the squad a lot of quality.

"He has got a very good passing range and he has also brought that work ethic you need into his game - that's the other side of it.

"All credit goes to Pablo for doing that, and he is a very important player for us right now.

"He had a bit of tightness in his hamstring against Palace, but he's had a scan and it's nothing serious.

"He has trained well and looks ready to go, which is good news for us."

et again Barcelona try to convince the world that they only play the most virtuous of football. I've never seen a team so willing and able to dish out lumps but feel so self-righteous that no opposition player should ever have the audacity to tackle them.

d love to see a United v Liverpool FA cup final. It would certainly fit the narrative. Obv I'd want the ending to be one of an O.G. and tears as he collects his runner-up medal.
