David Forde: Looking to be fit for Friday

David Forde: Looking to be fit for Friday

The Millwall player has been struggling with a calf injury since starring in the 1-1 friendly draw with England at Wembley, but Republic goalkeeping coach Alan Kelly is hopeful that he will be able to train fully with the team ahead of the home qualifier.

Kelly said: "He's coming on. The doctor and the medical staff have done a fantastic job so far. He did a bit of work with me, he's been in the gym this morning and he's looking to train fully tomorrow, so it's so far, so good.

"Everything has gone to plan so far, every test that's been put in his way, he has overcome.

"It's like anything, you assess after you have done something, but if it carries on the way it has, yes, he will be okay.

"If David doesn't make it, that's a question. I will give my opinion to the manager and then he will make the decision.

"But what I have to do in my job is make sure all three are firing and then if they are asked to perform, they can do that job because if I don't, then I would be letting them down."

Forde will hope to make himself available, but Sunderland's Keiren Westwood and new Birmingham signing Darren Randolph are standing by to replace him if he fails to shake off the problem.

Defenders Richard Dunne and Marc Wilson both trained in Malahide, although the indications were that the former's hopes of starting on Friday may be receding.

e'll be fine, no problem. If they do get relegated, he's definitely going to ask how anyone could ever have thought that Villa were going to be fine given their problems before he came.

toke though. Hmn. I don't think it was defending that made people dislike Stoke so much as the out and out cheating/nastiness they regularly displayed. That, and they kept buying the odd flair player and then ruining them (Oh! Tuncay, what were you thinking?).

ell that really inspires me with confidence. No point in training, deciding on a coherent formation, or playing players in their best positions, let's just hope we get lucky.
