Danny Ward: Looking to earn an extended stay at Huddersfield

The 23-year-old forward has seen a 12-month option taken up on his current deal, taking him through to next summer.

Ward will have spent four years at the John Smith’s Stadium by the time that agreement comes to an end, having been snapped up on a permanent basis from Bolton Wanderers in 2011.

He produced his best return in terms of goals scored last season, as he netted 10 times in all competitions, and believes he is starting to show his true colours.

With his form improving as he feels more settled, Ward is determined to ensure that his efforts next term are rewarded with the offer of fresh terms.

He told the Huddersfield Examiner: “I definitely want to get something sorted out.

“The aim is to work hard, get straight into the season, stay fit and show I deserve to be involved here.”

Meanwhile, Huddersfield boss Mark Robins is contemplating whether to hand a short-term deal to Swedish trialist Markus Holgerson, with the defender having figured in Saturday’s friendly victory over SC Portimonense.

He said: “This was a good opportunity to look at Markus and he’s done nothing wrong.

“He’s not a youngster, he’s 29, and we have to make a decision on whether he can perform in the Championship on a consistent basis.”
