Ashley Barnes: Feels settled at Brighton

The 24-year-old striker claims he felt like he was being 'pushed out' over the summer, with Burnley expressing plenty of interest in his services.

No deal was done, though, and Barnes remains at the Amex Stadium.

He says he could not be happier and, fresh from netting twice in a 3-0 win over Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, is now looking to prolong a contract which is due to expire at the end of the season.

Barnes told The Argus: "I felt like I was getting pushed out of the club, but that's beside the point.

"I want to be here for as many years as possible, but I need to be given the opportunity to be here and obviously it's the people upstairs that make that decision.

"I am just going to fight for my career until the end of the season and hopefully get offered a new deal.

"I've only just scored two goals but I want to be here for a long time. This is where I see my life and my family is settled here. I've got a house and everything, so why do I need to move?"

Barnes is aware that there are certain sections of the Brighton support he is yet to convince - despite netting his 50th goal for the club over the weekend - but he is up for the challenge of winning them over.

The former Plymouth forward, who joined the Seagulls in 2010, added: "There were boos and stuff like that but that's part and parcel of football, that's my job and I can handle pressure, that's not a problem.

"I am going to get that anywhere, it's just one of those things. I've had it before I came here and I'm getting it now but, do you know what, it's not a problem and I take it on the chin.

"Whatever someone thinks it's their own opinion and everyone has their own say. All I want to do is give 100% and see where it goes.

"It's the gaffer's decision to play me. If he didn't like me then it would be a problem but I'm playing and I've just got to keep going and work my socks off."

ah, Fergie is just having another pop at Rooney. He just wants to put him down whenever he gets a chance. Rooney is by far the best English player. Carrick is not far behind, mind. However, by elevating Carrick like that, Sir is having a dig at Wayne. Fergie is well-known for mind games like that. Good to see he's still feisty.
