Simon Walton: Upbeat over survival prospects

Walton, 25, has not enjoyed the best of seasons after joining Pools in the summer following his release by Plymouth Argyle, but turned in a man-of-the-match display in Saturday's home win over Notts County.

Victory ensured a first home win for League One's bottom club since September 1, a first home win for manager John Hughes and Pools' first back-to-back wins since September 2011.

Walton, who has struggled to win over the fans at Victoria Park, told the club's official website: "That reception meant a lot to me.

"At the start of the season I wanted to make a massive impression, as I think everyone does when they come to a new club, but it went in the opposite direction really.

"After Saturday, I'll give myself a little pat on the back maybe, but I'm not one to get carried away.

"There's a lot of work to be done for me to get back to where I should be and where I know I can be and I think that applies to the team as well.

"It's up to me to get my head down and have a real go at turning it around.

"There's a long way to go, but keeping us in this division will play a massive part in that."
