Colin Cooper: Full of praise for Franks

Cooper thought his side were "outstanding" as Jonathan Franks sealed the three points with a volley deep into stoppage time, which came just minutes after Morecambe had fought back with Jack Sampson cancelling out Jack Baldwin's opener.

The Pools manager said: "When you look at the team sheet you see just how young most of the lads are in this side but they were outstanding, especially when we were going forward.

"They always looked in charge and played some great stuff but when Morecambe came back into the game so late they could have let their heads drop. But they didn't and they fought all the way to the death and went close in normal time before winning the game late on.

"They may be young but with that there is a spirit and determination, energy and enthusiasm that was there for all to see. We put a load of crosses into the box but Morecambe, to their credit, defended well and were always in the game at 1-0 and they hit us with a counter punch.

"But for us to create two chances after that and take one of them was superb."

The excellent Baldwin headed Hartlepool into the lead in the 17th minute when he got on to the end of Matty Dolan's corner but Morecambe hit back three minutes from time when Sampson's shot squirmed under goalkeeper Scott Flinders.

Franks hit the crossbar and Flinders made a superb double save in the last minute of the game before Franks struck a late, late winner.

ah, Fergie is just having another pop at Rooney. He just wants to put him down whenever he gets a chance. Rooney is by far the best English player. Carrick is not far behind, mind. However, by elevating Carrick like that, Sir is having a dig at Wayne. Fergie is well-known for mind games like that. Good to see he's still feisty.
