Stevie May: Happy at St Johnstone

Stevie May: Happy at St Johnstone

The 20-year-old striker has come through the ranks at McDiarmid Park, but this season he is looking to become a regular for the first time and he has begun the Scottish Premiership campaign in fine form.

He has spent the last two seasons impressing on loan, scoring double figures with Alloa and then last term with Hamilton.

Indeed, May's form for Hamilton attracted interest from England. Last month, Peterborough United failed with a bid to land him, but the Scotland Under-21 international insists he would not have left his hometown club yet.

"I have been at St Johnstone since I was 11, so why move away at this point when I am playing and scoring goals?" May told Sky Sports News.

"It [the question of leaving] never came round that I had to make that decision, but that [staying] is the one I would have made."

May insists that being loaned out by St Johnstone was a huge positive for him and helped him build up his confidence.

"I looked on it as an opportunity, as opposed to having to go to the lower leagues," he said.

"The age I was at and the age I am now, the most important thing is playing first-team football and I don't think that can be underestimated.

"It doesn't matter what level you're at. In terms of being confident and scoring goals, it all comes as a part of playing football."

ang on there!! We've only just won the second in a row. Don't we have to win three, like Brazil, to get to keep the Cup permanently at our stadium? ;-)

enteke is an absolute steal for £32.5m, he would get into any team in the world (except Barcelona) at the moment. I've seen many very good strikers in my 30+ years as a Villa fan. This guy is the best without question.
