Soares, 26, has a hematoma behind his hamstring muscles - bleeding in the muscles - and is likely to be ruled out of the Shakers' quest for League One survival, although the club retain slim hopes that the former Crystal Palace and Stoke man could return for the final weeks.

A statement on Bury's official website read: "Should Tom regain his fitness for the final few games of the season then it will be classed as something of a bonus."

Soares joins Stephane Zubar on the sidelines, with the on-loan Bournemouth defender set to learn the full extent of his knee injury later this week after visiting a specialist on the south coast on Tuesday.
