On Thursday, Ibrox chief executive Charles Green revealed the third division side had reached settlements with a number of clubs over player transfers.

Hearts agreed to accept an early payment of £400,000 for full-back Lee Wallace rather than the £500,000 they would have been due in the summer.

And monies owed to Rapid Vienna (for Nikica Jelavic), GAIS (Mervan Celik), St Etienne (Carlos Bocanegra), Orebro (Alejandro Bedoya) and Palermo (Dorin Goian) were also paid up.

Now a year after Rangers entered administration, and were subsequently consigned to liquidation, McCoist believes the only topics he should have to address are about his team.

In a statement on Rangers' website, he said: "That's really important because we are a very proud club with a very proud and great history.

"That means a lot and we are proud of the fact that we always attempt to do things in the right way.

"Of course, sometimes we'll get it wrong but it is important to us as staff and indeed fans of the club that we're seen to be doing what is right.

"We've always had great standards, fantastic standards, and that's what we want to remain. We want to retain them.

"All we want to do is focus on what's on the pitch now. At every press conference for the past year, we've eventually got around to talking about football.

"Things will come up every now and then but thankfully I do believe football is getting back to being the most important thing for us."

I

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
