McNamara credit for Thistle

Dundee United boss Jackie McNamara paid tribute to Partick Thistle after a goalless Scottish Premiership opener at Firhill.

The Terrors found Thistle goalkeeper Scott Fox in excellent form as the newly-promoted hosts secured a point - and McNamara will have been grateful to his own stopper, Radoslaw Cierzniak, for preserving parity at the other end.

McNamara, a former Partick player and manager, said: "We had better possession in the first half, then they changed it and caused us problems.

"I can see teams having problems here with the way they play. They are comfortable on the ball and well organised."

Cierzniak added: "For the manager, this was very important and it's a shame we couldn't win. It's one point and we could have lost today as well.

"We had a lot of chances and this was maybe a good result for us. I think it's all right."
