Nadir Ciftci: Dundee United striker saw red card reduced on appeal

Ciftci was dismissed during the second half of last week's League Cup quarter final after appearing to grab Inverness Caley Thistle midfielder Graham Shinnie by the throat.

The Turkish forward had reacted angrily to a Richie Foran tackle on team-mate Gary Mackay-Steven and the incident sparked a spat between the two sides which resulted in Inverness boss Terry Butcher and United coach Darren Jackson being sent to the stands.

United had feared Ciftci could be hit by a longer ban after SFA compliance officer Vincent Lunny cited him for his part in the melee and for his subsequent clash with assistant referee Gavin Harris.

But United boss Jackie McNamara lodged an appeal against the sending off on the grounds of 'wrongful dismissal' which the Disciplinary Committee of the governing body upheld and reduced the offence to a caution.
