Lionel Messi: Expected to land the award for the fifth time in a row

Messi has won the award four times in a row and is 11/8 to make it five, with Bayern Munich's Champions League winner Ribery pushing him close at 7/4.

Ronaldo, who won the award as a Manchester United player in 2008, is third favourite at 6/1, with Real Madrid failing to win any silverware last season.

Meanwhile, the world's most expensive player Gareth Bale, the only British player on the list, is given an unlikely chance at 50/1, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic (33/1), Neymar (33/1) and Andres Iniesta (33/1) all a shorter price than the Welshman.

Sky Bet Football Trader Chris Spicer said: "At 11/8 Messi is a bigger price than usual for the award, but a wave of support for Ribery and outsiders such as Ibrahimovic has forced us to rejig our odds.

"Bale hasn't had the best of starts to his Real Madrid career so, unfortunately, he's also an outsider in our eyes, despite his 26-goal haul in a Tottenham shirt last season."
