Benjamin Mendy: Discussing a summer switch to England

The 18-year-old defender is rumoured to be interesting Cardiff City and Sunderland.

A switch to the Premier League would appear to be on the cards, with Le Havre admitting to having opened discussions with interested parties.

Mendy's preferred choice would be a switch to the English top flight, meaning clubs in France - such as Marseille and Lyon - could be left disappointed.

Le Havre president Jean Pierre Louvel told RMC: "We are talking to clubs and the talks with English teams are going better than others.

"He is most likely going to go and play in England."

Mendy admits he would welcome the opportunity to test himself in the Premier League, with the youngster determined to keep his career heading on an upward curve.

He said: "I have always dreamt of playing in England so I am happy to be linked with English clubs.

"I know it is a big step to go there straight away, but if you want to progress in Europe you need to play at the top level."
