Jean Makoun: Midfielder to join Rennes on a permanent basis

Makoun has spent this season on loan with Rennes and the French club have taken up their option to sign the 29-year-old for an undisclosed fee.

The Cameroonian joined Villa in January 2011 from Lyon after being signed by Gerard Houllier, but struggled to make an impact in the Premier League.

He was shipped out by Houllier's successor Alex McLeish to Olympiakos on loan last term and he failed to catch current manager Paul Lambert's eye upon his appointment last summer.

Makoun cost Villa £6million and he will leave the club after making just seven league appearances and one in the League Cup.

e was right to leave, but not just because of the money City were coming into. If I remember rightly he had a reasonable amount of chances to shine at City, but he never passed the bloody ball. Loads of aimless dribbles and 40 yard shots and not much else. I would say that if he had learnt to be a bit more of a team player he may have done better at City.
