Edinson Cavani: PSG buoyed by midweek victory

PSG travel to third-placed Marseille on Sunday just behind leaders Monaco on goal difference but buoyed by their 3-0 win over Benfica in which Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored two first-half goals.

Cavani said: "So far things are going well and we still have this fighting spirit. This result gives us great confidence for the future, especially for the trip to Marseille, who are a very good team."

Laurent Blanc's side will be in prime position to take over the Ligue 1 leadership going into the October international break if Monaco fail to take three points from their home match against St Etienne on Saturday.

Claudio Ranieri's side were surprisingly held to a 1-1 draw in Reims last Sunday and midfielder Lucas Ocampos has acknowledged the importance of his side retaining their lead going into the break.

Ocampos said: "Our ambition is very simple - we are playing at home and defending first place.

"It would be very good for us to be in top spot for the international break, so it is an important match."

Improving Lille look to extend their three-match unbeaten run at home to Fabrizio Ravanelli's Ajaccio, who followed up their first win of the season two weeks ago with a home draw against Montpellier last Sunday.

Meanwhile a fascinating match at the Stade de la Mosson pits Montpellier against Lyon with both clubs coming under pressure after disappointing starts to the current campaign.

The hosts go into the game on the back of five straight draws while Remi Garde's visitors have won just one of their last six Ligue 1 games and head into the weekend in a relatively lowly ninth place.

With three wins from their last four games, Claude Puel's in-form Nice side travel to struggling Toulouse, while Nantes will look to make it three straight wins at home to Evian.

At the bottom, things can not get much worse for Valenciennes, who go into their home match with Reims having lost their last seven including last weekend's painful 2-0 defeat to fellow strugglers Sochaux.

That win was enough to lift Omar Daf's side off the foot of the table, and they will look to make the most of it on Sunday when they travel to Bordeaux, who are without a win in five.

Top-flight new boys Guingamp are at home to Rennes, while Bastia are at home to struggling Lorient on Friday night.

ou can't blame De Gea for wanting to leave, he has enough to do in front of goal as it is as well as taking on the role of Man Utd's version of Derek Acorah in trying to contact and organise a defence that isn't there.

f you want to take six points off Arsenal, then that's a great strike force. Can't imagine either of them showing much for the rest of the season though...
