Coupe de France QF preview

Paris Saint-Germain's hopes of a trophy treble may have evaporated at the Nou Camp last week but their double ambitions remain very much alive ahead of Wednesday's Coupe de France quarter-final at Evian.

Blaise Matuidi: Ready for Wednesday's cup clash with Evian

An away-goals defeat to UEFA Champions League favourites Barcelona was chalked down as a glorious, if disappointing, defeat for the Parisians, although the mood in the camp brightened with a workmanlike 1-0 win at Troyes in the league at the weekend.

That victory means Carlo Ancelotti's men are now nine points clear at Ligue 1's summit with just six games left, and only an horrendous collapse over the run-in stands between PSG and a first league crown in 19 years.

Blaise Matuidi, who scored the winning goal at the weekend, hailed the result at Troyes as an "important victory" and has vowed PSG will do everything to ensure progression in the cup this week.

"The Coupe de France really means a lot to us," the France international told the club's website.

"We really want to win it, even if we know it won't be easy. Now we have to give it absolutely anything to go all the way."

Club and country team-mate Mamadou Sakho added: "This cup, it is special for us. We really want to win it.

"Now we have to recover well if we want to go on and win against Evian."

Wednesday night's other tie sees Bordeaux bidding to progress to the semi-finals in rather more comfort than they were afforded in booking their berth in the last eight.

Les Girondins needed penalties to see off fourth-tier amateurs Raon-l'Etape in the last round, and will hope for a more straightforward assignment when they visit mid-table Ligue 2 outfit Lens, the last team from outside the top flight remaining in the competition.

Bordeaux head into the tie with their tails up after an impressive 4-2 win over reigning champions Montpellier on Sunday, a result that saw Francis Gillot's men snap a three-match winless streak.

The quarter-finals begin on Tuesday night, with Nancy the visitors to Troyes and St Etienne playing host to Lorient.

Tuesday's fixture marks the start of a big week of cup football for St Etienne, who also play the final of the Coupe de la Ligue against Rennes at Stade de France on Saturday.

Like PSG, Les Verts head into the midweek fixtures with a domestic double on the line, and coach Christophe Galtier is refusing to be distracted by their weekend outing at the national stadium.

"You may think that I'm focused on Saturday's game since a trophy is at stake, but a quarter-final of the Coupe de France is also a very important game," said Galtier.

"We all know the importance of quarter-finals. You do not play these games often in a career.

"We are on an incredible run in all competitions and we all want to reach the semi-finals."

ou can't blame De Gea for wanting to leave, he has enough to do in front of goal as it is as well as taking on the role of Man Utd's version of Derek Acorah in trying to contact and organise a defence that isn't there.
