Laurent Blanc: Relishing his new job at PSG

The former France coach was named on Tuesday as the successor to Carlo Ancelotti as the Italian's drawn-out departure for Real Madrid was finally confirmed.

Blanc led Les Bleus to the Euro 2012 quarter-finals and will take over a team who reached the same stage in last season's Champions League while winning Ligue 1.

Asked to contrast the two roles, he said: "Work at a club is more exciting daily, I think. Honestly, coach and (national team) selector are two different jobs.

"The pressure will be there because at Paris St Germain, people expect a win in each match.

"When a club have been champions with 83 points and Champions League quarter-finalists, the goal is to do just as well - if not better - in terms of titles, points and style of play.

"Paris is a big club where expectation is the law. We have the means to put together a very good team so we have to be very competitive."

With regards to his style of play, the 47-year-old added: "The idea is to be adventurous while keeping things secure. To try to win and play good football, that is my philosophy.

"It is better to be bold from the outset than be cautious and then bold later on."

The make-up of Blanc's coaching staff, aside from assistant Jean-Louis Gasset, is not yet known and there have been suggestions former PSG and France midfielder Claude Makelele could be involved in some capacity.

Blanc said: "I come with Jean-Louis Gasset as my assistant, that is a certainty. We will take time to compose our staff. Makelele? There is a common wish to work together, we will see in time whether that comes to anything.

"We want good people around us who share the same philosophy and the same passion as us."

Blanc was reluctant to talk about potential transfers in or out of the club but club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi offered insight on two of the club's star performers last season.

"I want to confirm that Thiago Silva and (Zlatan) Ibrahimovic will stay in Paris until the end of their contracts," the Qatari announced at the press conference to unveil Blanc.

I

expect Pulis to have a nice Christmas dinner with his family- probably all sitting around the table wearing Christmas themed baseball caps, before he gets the call. Realistically he could end up at any number of clubs, it'll be interesting to see which club folds first.

A

s a Liverpool fan, I personally hate Palace. My pick would probably be Arsenal, which is funny because it seems the vast majority of their own fans don't even like them right now.
