Xavi: Wants to stay at Barcelona

Xavi signed a two-year contract extension last January tying him to Barca until 2016 - when he will be 36 - but he has recently been the subject of reports mooting a possible move to Major League Soccer and Qatar.

However, the Spain international insists he has no intention of quitting Barca, where he has been his whole career, and feels he still has plenty to offer his local club.

"I'm not going to Qatar or New York, I want to finish my contract with Barca. I'm staying here, I feel important and useful," he said following Barca's 3-0 home win over Malaga at the Nou Camp.

"I'm very happy on the pitch. I renewed by contract a little while ago and I will try to be at the level I need. My dream and my aim is to continue for years at Barca."

Before the Malaga match Xavi was honoured by the club after recently making his 700th official appearance for Barca.

During his time with the Blaugrana, Xavi has won a host of silverware, including seven Primera Division titles, three Champions Leagues and two Copa del Reys, and he admits it has been a special time for him.

"I've been here for many years, there are a lot of memories and we've won a lot of titles with this generation of footballers, one look back and you realise that we've really enjoyed ourselves," he said.
