No number 9

Guillem Balague told Revista that Real Madrid fans are frustrated with striker Karim Benzema as he doesn't fit the No.9 role.

The striker has been facing whistles from the passionate fans at the Bernabéu after only scoring 11 goals in La Liga last season.

Despite scoring four in seven games this season, Guillem Balague says the Madrid fans will not change their minds.

"The fans do not care about the stats. You know what he doesn't do - he doesn't run for every possible ball - that's what they like him to do.

"They like him to have hot blood, but instead he's got milk in his veins. David Beckham was told that when he first arrived. It doesn't matter how good you are, you always run for the ball to show you care, so he did that all the time and they loved him. It took him four years to get a title, but they still love him."

With limited game time last season, Gonzalo Higuain scored 18 goals for Los Galácticos, but was sold to Napoli in the summer transfer window. The loss of the classic No.9 has left more pressure on Benzema take on the role, which according to Balague, he is struggling with.

"Benzema is not that at all and he's not a number 9 . Real Madrid should have someone that scores 30 goals a season at number 9 and he's not that."
