Cristiano Ronaldo: PSG were unable to convince him to leave Real Madrid

With PSG bankrolled by wealthy and hugely ambitious owners, they are in the enviable position of being able to chase the world's top talent.

Ronaldo certainly falls into that category, with the Portuguese superstar boasting a remarkable strike rate in Spain.

Any deal to take him away from Santiago Bernabeu would have smashed all transfer records, but PSG were prepared to put the question to Real and their talismanic frontman.

They were knocked back, but Leonardo believes there could be further big-name arrivals at Parc des Princes in the near future - with Juventus' France international Paul Pogba towards the top of PSG's wish list.

Leonardo, who quit his post in the French capital back in July, told Telefoot: "Pogba is at the level to play for PSG, of course.

"We thought about him and thought he would be a great investment because he is one of the best midfielders in the world.

"We also thought of signing Ronaldo. I did everything within the written laws to try and get him to Paris, but it was impossible to make him leave Real Madrid.

"There is no other team that has the squad of Paris St Germain. No other team has such offensive force.

"The squad has Salvatore Sirigu, Thiago Silva, Thiago Motta, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and then came Edinson Cavani. We wanted this strong central spine. The team is ready for now and for the future."

e was right to leave, but not just because of the money City were coming into. If I remember rightly he had a reasonable amount of chances to shine at City, but he never passed the bloody ball. Loads of aimless dribbles and 40 yard shots and not much else. I would say that if he had learnt to be a bit more of a team player he may have done better at City.
