Jonas: Late winner for Valencia against Valladolid

Valencia boosted their hopes of a top-four finish after a late 2-1 win over Valladolid at the Mestalla.

The home side were gifted the lead six minutes before the break when Mikel Balenziaga put through his own net.

Things got worse for Valladolid before the hour mark when Henrique Sereno was sent off for bringing down Roberto Soldado inside the box for a penalty

Soldado took responsibility from the spot-kick, but saw his effort superbly saved by Dani Hernandez.

Valladolid stunned the home side with an equaliser from Oscar on 71 minutes, but Valencia grabbed the winner deep into injury-time thanks to Jonas' header.

Nine-man Atletico Madrid held on for a goalless draw at Getafe after an eventful contest.

Both Mario Suarez and Diego Godin were dismissed for the third-placed visitors who now trail city rivals Real Madrid by three points in the Primera Liga.

Atletico had the better of what few chances were created but star striker Radamel Falcao had a rare off night in front of goal.

Espanyol took a giant step towards securing their future in the Primera Division for another season after beating Osasuna 2-0 at the Reyno de Navarra.

Hector Moreno gave the Catalans the lead early in the second half and Mubarak Wakaso made sure of all three points in stoppage time.

The result takes Javier Aguirre's side 13 points clear of the relegation zone but Osasuna, who are five points above the bottom three, still have some work to do.

Rayo Vallecano piled the misery on struggling Celta Vigo as they picked up their first away win in just under three months after a 2-0 victory at the Balaidos.

Rayo captain Piti gave the Madrid side the lead early in the first half and substitute Andrija Delibasic made sure of the points late on with a second goal to leave Celta languishing second from bottom of the table.

h Daniel. I could spend hours on this subject putting the world to rights. You can even take a step back and ask why football fans (and society in general) have this need to know that something will happen before it actually does. There are times this important, when it comes to things like war, food production and natural disasters. A man you've never met changing his job? Not so much.

reat article. Hits the nail on the head. Encapsulates why I don't read tabloid newspapers anymore. The only thing worse is the 'told you so first' headline when they get lucky.
