Costa is currently embroiled in a tug-of-war between his native Brazil and Spain, where he has played since 2007, who both want the striker to represent them in next year's tournament.

"Diego Costa will receive the opportunity to be called up for the World Cup. The first striker is Fred, who is injured, Diego is the second striker and I'll have to find a third one," Scolari reportedly told Radio COPE.

"I intend to take him to the World Cup. If the tournament was today or tomorrow, he would be in the squad."

Scolari also revealed that he hopes the saga is resolved in the next few weeks.

"I will call up the player for the games next month against Honduras in Miami, and Chile in Toronto," he added.
