The Nerazzurri are in the market for a new midfielder after selling Wesley Sneijder to Galatasaray and Belhanda, who won Ligue 1 with Montpellier last season, performs a similar role to the Dutch playmaker.
But Inter director Marco Branca was left bemused by an article published in a Turkish newspaper this morning.
Montpellier president Louis Nicollin was quoted as telling AMK: "We have accepted an offer of 14million euros (£11.8m) for Belhanda from Inter.
"Fenerbahce only offered eight million (£6.7m), so the player will go to Inter."
Branca replied with a brief statement on Inter's official website this afternoon.
"We don't like to contradict Montpellier's president, but Inter have never presented him with an offer for Younes Belhanda," he said.
