The 32-year-old is expected to return to training with the Giallorossi at their Trigoria base in the next few days after sustaining a hamstring injury which ruled him out of Brazil's friendlies against South Korea and Zambia.

"I'm almost 100 per cent recovered from my injury," he told Brazilian sports news website Lancenet.

"This week I started physical work and now I have to improve because I have not trained for 12 days and because we have a difficult game against Napoli."

Despite missing Brazil's friendly double-header over the coming days, Maicon remains determined to be a part of the 2014 World Cup squad on home soil, as he was at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

"(Injuries) happen in football. Clearly it came at a time when I was playing regularly for Roma and came at a sensitive time because I was going to join up with Brazil," he added.

"But it happened, now I'm back to work and I want to play well to get back in the national team. It was not a serious hamstring injury but the doctor thought it was necessary to rest for about 15 days to recover."

Maicon's return would be timely for Serie A leaders Roma, who take on second-placed Napoli at the Stadio Olimpico on Friday, October 18.
