The Giallorossi made history by starting their season with five straight wins but more pressing was the need to keep title rivals Juventus and Napoli underneath them after both sides won away from home this weekend.

Winless Bologna were never likely to present a serious obstacle to Rudi Garcia's men and Roma sensed their fear, plundering a three-goal first-half lead through Alessandro Florenzi, Gervinho and Mehdi Benatia.

The eight million euro signing from Arsenal then fired his third goal in Giallorossi colours before substitute Adem Ljajic added gloss to the victory five minutes from time.

And on a day which saw Fabio Liverani become the first Serie A coach to lose his job after Genoa turned to former boss Gian Piero Gasperini, Bologna's Stefano Pioli faces a battle to keep his job after overseeing three draws and three poor defeats.

Inter Milan, who host Roma next weekend, were left frustrated after Radja Nainggolan's late free-kick rescued a point from a 1-1 draw for Cagliari.

Walter Mazzarri's men could have been out of sight by half-time but Rossoblu goalkeeper Michael Agazzi had a resilient afternoon.

Substitute Mauro Icardi finally found a way through for Inter with 15 minutes remaining but Nainggolan stepped up to grab Cagliari a share of the points in the final phases.

Reigning champions Juventus continued their strong start to the season as Paul Pogba's solitary strike secured a 1-0 victory at city rivals Torino.

Torino, without a win over Juve since 1995, never looked in danger of breaking that unwanted record and produced few chances of merit over the 90 minutes.

Plucky Sassuolo recovered from two goals down to force a 2-2 draw with Lazio and pick up a first home point.

Andre Dias and Antonio Candreva produced a quickfire double after the break, but the northerners promptly hit back through Ezequiel Schelotto and Antonio Floro Flores to rescue a point.

Jorginho settled a frantic battle between two promoted sides as his late penalty earned Hellas Verona a 2-1 over Livorno.

Goalkeeper Rafael kept Livorno at bay in the first half and on-loan Porto forward Juan Iturbe soon scored his first goal for the club. Leandro Rinaudo levelled with a header only for Jorginho to settle the match from the spot after Luca Toni had been fouled.

Catania deservedly secured their first league win of the season by beating Chievo 2-0 at the Stadio Angelo Massimino with goals from Jaroslav Plasil and Lucas Castro in either half and elsewhere, German Denis netted both goals as Atalanta ended a run of three successive defeats with a 2-0 home triumph over Udinese.
