The 27-year-old joined the Nerazzurri last weekend on a season-long loan from Porto and could play a major part as Inter look to go all the way in succeeding Lazio as holders of Italy's domestic cup.

Inter's returning internationals took part in a light workout session on Thursday ahead of the third-round tie and captain Javier Zanetti continued his work on the sidelines today - although the Cittadella clash comes too soon for his return in Walter Mazzarri's side.

The 40-year-old, who signed a new one-year deal with the Nerazzurri this summer, has not played since late April when he ruptured the Achilles tendon in his left foot during a defeat by Palermo and is likely to be out until autumn.

In Sunday's other match, Atalanta also take on Serie B opponents as they host Bari as they begin their cup campaign.

Sampdoria have named a strong team for the tie at home to Benevento on Saturday.

Coach Delio Rossi put his side through their paces today and reported a fully fit squad with the exception of Sergio Romero, who sat out training with a muscle injury.

Rossi is looking forward to the game but is aware their opponents could cause an upset if Samp are not careful.

He told the club's official website www.sampdoria.it: "We have worked so well this month and tomorrow night I expect to see improvements.

"This is the classic game where you will have everything to lose. But we keep moving forward.

"In our country, in addition to Serie A, we have the Italian Cup. We must honor this competition."

In Saturday's afternoon kick-off, Serie A newcomers Livorno take on relegated Siena in what could be one of the standout draws of the third round.

Last season's Serie B champions Sassuolo face Novara away and runners-up Verona travel to recently relegated Palermo in what could be another feisty encounter.

Other matches on Saturday involving Serie A sides see Bologna face Brescia, Cagliari are at home against Frosinone, Genoa travel to Spezia, Chievo take on Empoli, Parma host Lecce and Torino play at home against Pescara.

There are also four all-Serie B ties taking place on Saturday evening as Avellino clash with Cesena, Reggina come up against Crotone, Juve Stab battle it out with Varese and Trapani host Padova.
