Christian Streich: Prepares to face Stuttgart again

With Bayern Munich winning Tuesday night's last-four clash against Wolfsburg, the second semi-final bestowed an automatic Europa League place on the winner.

That honour went to Stuttgart, but Freiburg could still be joining them in Europe next season.

Gaining revenge for the 2-1 defeat at the Mercedes-Benz Arena on Wednesday night would give Freiburg at least a four-point advantage over seventh place going into the final four games of the season.

But their coach Christian Streich is happy to admit that he is already satisfied with his season's work.

"We were not good enough and Stuttgart deserved to win, but we have already achieved our goal for the season," he said.

"We are not going down and anything more than that is just a bonus."

For sides like Hamburg, Hannover and Borussia Monchengladbach, on the other hand, qualifying for Europe is closer to an obligation than an added extra.

They are three of six clubs chasing Freiburg for a place in the Europa League, with just four points between them.

Gladbach can land the first blow on Friday night when they entertain struggling Augsburg, although their coach, like Streich, prefers not to get distracted by the lure of Europe.

"I don't want to talk about that anymore," he said. "We just want to take things game by game and fight for the points that are available."

Hamburg host Fortuna Dusseldorf on Saturday, when Hannover entertain the champions Bayern.

Mainz are another of the sides still in the running for a place in Europe and they travel to Borussia Dortmund, who may well have one eye on next Wednesday's Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid.

Eintracht Frankfurt and Nurnberg are the other two teams still in the hunt for a top-six finish, and they face Schalke and Greuther Furth respectively this weekend.

Elsewhere, Bayer Leverkusen can strengthen their claim to a place in the Champions League when they host Hoffenheim and Wolfsburg's director of sport Klaus Allofs makes his first return to his former club Werder Bremen since leaving them after 13 years last November.

t's wrong to be making a joke out of Bender's name at the expense of gay people. It's the kind of childish, uncivilised thing that Football365 would deride and ridicule if it was another media outlet saying. Why is there a need for jokes like this? Does it make your writers feel like men? F365 might suggest that I 'lighten up', but it is genuinely traumatic for people who have been oppressed all their lives to be the butt of jokes, and to be told...

ou can't blame De Gea for wanting to leave, he has enough to do in front of goal as it is as well as taking on the role of Man Utd's version of Derek Acorah in trying to contact and organise a defence that isn't there.

f you want to take six points off Arsenal, then that's a great strike force. Can't imagine either of them showing much for the rest of the season though...
