Sebastian Rode: Loyal to Frankfurt

The Germany Under-21 international announced at the weekend that he would not be extending his contract beyond 2014, even though he stressed at the same time that he was committed to fulfilling the deal he currently has with the Bundesliga club.

Bayern were immediately linked with the player either in the coming summer, or on a free transfer when his contract expires.

However, Rode fears that the speculation about his future could get in the way of his side's hopes of qualifying for Europe next season and, in a statement on his club's website, he asked for an end to be brought to the rumours.

"After more speculation about my future emerged yesterday and since this took something away from the Schalke win and the great performance of the whole team, I would like to make one thing clear," he said.

"I have a contract with Eintracht until 2014 and I am very happy in Frankfurt.

"During talks with the club bosses, I made it clear quite soon that I will fulfil my contract, but would not like to extend it.

"I have not signed on for any other club and I would like to commit all of my energy and concentration to my team and my performance.

"All the rest is pure speculation which does not come from me and which I do not like either.

"My only goal now is success with Eintracht Frankfurt."

Rode played 33 times for Frankfurt in their promotion-winning year last season and has started 28 of their 30 Bundesliga games this season, missing out once due to suspension.

Frankfurt are currently sixth in the table, a point behind fourth-place Schalke and among a group of five clubs actively seeking three berths in Europe next season.

still can't see the Phil Jones thing that some people go on about. Whenever I watch him play it's a repeat of headless chicken meets a gurning Bambi on ice for 90 minutes.

P

robably the first list I've come across in a long time where I agree with a large majority of what was written. Can't agree with everything though, Zaba has had an awful season by his standards, I'd put Monreal (a player who I've never rated) up there, gotta give credit where it's due, he's really stepped up his game.
