Aymeric Laporte: Athletic Bilbao defender has no plans to move this summer

The 20-year-old has established himself as first choice centre-back at Bilbao, and made 35 league appearances last season, scoring two goals.

Amid speculation over the France Under-21 international's future, Laporte has no plans to move away from Bilbao this summer, despite being flattered by links to two of Europe's biggest clubs.

"Am I going to leave this summer? No, I am happy at Bilbao," he told L'Equipe.

"I have a €36million release clause and if one day a departure could become possible, I would think about it.

"Interest from Barcelona and Bayern Munich is impressive and rewarding. But I believe you have to take it with a kind of casualness as long as there is nothing concrete.

"Barcelona has won everything in recent years. It is a dream for anyone. Bayern are also one of the best teams in the world.

"But I repeat, I am under contract at Athletic until 2018.

"Would it be a disappointment to stay at Athletic? Not at all. I will remain in a great team, playing in one of the best leagues in the world."

lassic management. Build them up and then knock them back. Raise expectations and then dampen them. Create a dynamic where by you demand the most from your team, but where the team are given room to manoeuvre unexpected or unwanted results. Classy work by Van Gaal, he really reminds me a lot of me. A smart cookie, make no doubt.
