The 22-year-old, who has scored 14 times for the club this season, is expected to complete the formalities of a big-money switch to Stamford Bridge in the next few weeks.

However, the deal could be dependent on Kevin De Bruyne heading the other way, with the young Belgian now understood to prefer a move to Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund.

"We'll see. Certain things were promised to me," Schurrle told reporters following his side's 1-0 win at Hamburg on the final day of the Bundesliga season.

"I hope they will keep these promises. It also depends on Leverkusen. I think, it was my last match."

Meanwhile, Leverkusen's sporting director Rudi Voller revealed no deal had been done yet with the Europa League winners for Schurrle.

"Let's all stay cool. We said it is only possible, if we find a proper alternative."

alcao really needs to shine now. Apparently according to the stats, he scores more when played up front alone. I wonder if Van Gaal will actually apply a formation to get the best out of him though.
