The two sides go head to head at the Westfalenstadion in a repeat of the Champions League final in May, which Bayern won 2-1 to complete a continental and domestic treble.

The architect of that Wembley success, Jupp Heynckes, has since departed with former Barcelona boss Guardiola brought in as his replacement.

The early signs have been encouraging. Despite tinkering with a system which brought so much success last season, Bayern have looked ominous in pre-season, scoring 61 goals and conceding three in nine warm-up games.

The latest came against Guardiola's previous employers on Wednesday, with Bayern cruising to a 2-0 win against a youthful Barca side.

"I'm satisfied up to now but we need a bit more time," said the former Spain midfielder.

"Perhaps we need to improve a little up front.

"We have so far worked very well and now look forward to this game. (But) it's only the start of the season. There's still a long, long road ahead."

Bayern will be without goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and winger Franck Ribery after both men sustained minor injuries against Barca while Mario Gotze, signed from Dortmund prior to the end of last season, is still not fit.

Dortmund also have their selection worries with new signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan sidelined, along with full-back Lukasz Piszczek.

Victory over Bayern two weeks before the Bundesliga returns might help Dortmund banish the memories of their Wembley disappointment, but coach Jurgen Klopp insists revenge will not be a motivation.

"We're far from harbouring any kind of revenge aspirations," he told the Bundesliga website.

"We were unable to decide a great game against great opponents in our favour at Wembley, but this game nevertheless gave us a great deal.

"Nobody left the field after that game, saying 'next time, we're going to show you!'

"All we want to do on Saturday is play good football again and then, if possible, keep the cup in Dortmund."

ell that really inspires me with confidence. No point in training, deciding on a coherent formation, or playing players in their best positions, let's just hope we get lucky.

alcao really needs to shine now. Apparently according to the stats, he scores more when played up front alone. I wonder if Van Gaal will actually apply a formation to get the best out of him though.
