Maxwell: Hoping to avoid Barca in the last eight

Maxwell: Hoping to avoid Barca in the last eight

Wednesday sees Valencia visit the Parc des Princes, trailing 2-1 from the first leg in Spain.

PSG will be without suspended striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic after his late dismissal at the Mestalla three weeks ago, so will be hampered by the Swede's absence.

But they start as favourites to advance to the next round, despite suffering a surprise Ligue 1 defeat to Reims on Saturday.

Asked if the weekend result would be a problem for PSG, heading to the European clash, Maxwell said: "I don't think so, simply because everyone here is focused on this European meeting.

"It's a big moment for the club ahead of us. This is a very important competition and we're going to do everything we can to win."

Asked on PSG TV which team he would like to take on in the quarter-finals, Maxwell added: "To get through to the last eight would be great. I don't particularly have a team that I would want to avoid, apart from maybe Barcelona.

"But to get through to the quarters would be superb, and that's the first bridge to cross."

m starting to think Roman may never actually be happy at the top level. If he wants all conquering fancy football I wonder if he'd be better off buying a lower division side then paying outlandish salaries to attract high caliber players too good for the division.
