The Spanish striker scored a goal in each half to put the Blues top of Group E at the halfway stage with two home games to come.
But, despite being happy with the position, Torres thinks there is still room for improvement.
He told Sky Sports: "We were lucky to score the first goal early so we could play the way we wanted, but they had their chances.
"In the second half, individual quality made the difference and we could have scored more goals
"We've got six points away from home which is good for us. Now we have to play Schalke again at home so we're in a good position."
Chelsea have an important game against Manchester City at the weekend and Torres believes the side is starting to click at the right time.
He continued: "It's a young squad with a new style and a new manager, so it takes time to settle. But we're still improving and will do until the end of the season."
And the striker says he is relishing the competition for places in Mourinho's squad.
"We have three very good strikers and hopefully we can all score goals," he said.
"When you get the chance you have to take it and score goals. The competition is very healthy.
"As a team we're feeling good. I feel very sharp and as a team we are very fit. We can play a lot of games and we need to be ready for them."
