England may have qualified for the World Cup in Brazil, but Roy Hodgson's side and the other Home Nations have hardly lit up the international scene in recent years.

Opportunities in the Premier League have tightened with the influx of foreign players over the past decade, and now much of the cream of British talent are plying their trade in the second division of English football.

The Championship is proving a good stage for young British strikers in particular - at present 13 of the top 14 goalscorers are from the UK.

Nottingham Forest and Scotland striker Jamie Mackie joined Sky Sports for the FL72-Preview show on Thursday and we asked him for his views on why the Brits are smashing in the goals in the Championship.

Physical

The British game has always been notorious for its rough and ready style.

But foreign managers and players have moulded the Premier League into a more technical division, where possession and passing ability are admired over defensive bravery and tough tackling.

We asked Jamie:

Talent

The Championship was arguably more exciting than the much-revered Premier League last season, with the play-off places and the relegation battle going down to a nail-biting final day of the season.

It's also home to some of the most promising British talent in the game and many Championship sides are now keeping hold of players that would have been sold to Premier League clubs two or three seasons ago - Charlie Austin of QPR, Jordan Rhodes of Blackburn and Tom Ince from Blackpool are three such men who chose playing regular football over bench-warming at a top club.

With that in mind, we asked Jamie...

In-form

The stats don't lie. With 13 of top the 14 goalscorers being British and having the average age of just 24, it's clear there's no shortage of young quality forwards, so we asked Jamie..

t's wrong to be making a joke out of Bender's name at the expense of gay people. It's the kind of childish, uncivilised thing that Football365 would deride and ridicule if it was another media outlet saying. Why is there a need for jokes like this? Does it make your writers feel like men? F365 might suggest that I 'lighten up', but it is genuinely traumatic for people who have been oppressed all their lives to be the butt of jokes, and to be told...

ou can't blame De Gea for wanting to leave, he has enough to do in front of goal as it is as well as taking on the role of Man Utd's version of Derek Acorah in trying to contact and organise a defence that isn't there.
