The pair are set to be involved with the senior squad for friendlies against the Republic of Ireland and Brazil, but Under 21s coach Stuart Pearce feels the youngsters would have benefited from playing at the tournament in Israel.

Pearce's Young Lions face Italy on 5 June, followed by two further group games against Norway and the hosts.

Both Wilshere and Welbeck have become regular members of the senior squad under Roy Hodgson, and Pearce feels that having to look elsewhere will be to the detriment of the players and the England set-up.

"We've had a chat and the information was that, probably, Jack won't be considered," said Pearce.

"Certainly Danny Welbeck won't be considered - they are gaining their education with the seniors.

"If you look at all the teams that have won major tournaments - the French, the Spanish - you have got to track that back to having a good experience when they are young. They go to the major tournaments with their better players."

"I have been barking on about it for the last six years and I'll continue to do it for the next 66 years. Hopefully someone will listen somewhere."

ah, Fergie is just having another pop at Rooney. He just wants to put him down whenever he gets a chance. Rooney is by far the best English player. Carrick is not far behind, mind. However, by elevating Carrick like that, Sir is having a dig at Wayne. Fergie is well-known for mind games like that. Good to see he's still feisty.
