Bevington wants more of same

Club England managing director Adrian Bevington hopes England can build on their 8-0 thumping of San Marino as their World Cup qualifying campaign continues.

Roy Hodgson's side thrashed the minnows, ranked 207th in the world, on Friday night to keep them within touching distance of current Group H leaders Montenegro, currently two points ahead.

England would go top with victory over Montenegro in a crucial meeting in Podgorica on Tuesday night and take an important step towards sealing a place at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Bevington hopes the comfortable win over San Marino will provide the springboard for future success.

He told Sky Sports: "While we all accept and understand the ranking of San Marino, the game was still there to be won and thankfully we went about it very well and scored some very good goals in the midst.

"Hopefully it gives us a good platform to build on going forward."

Bevington feels those associated with San Marino will have enjoyed Friday night's clash, staged in the country's 7,000-seater stadium, despite the result.

He added: "It was also a good environment to be in. The San Marino federation and their fans, it was a great night for them in so far as hosting England.

"They made us feel very welcome and we appreciate the hospitality that we've had while we've been here."

was there, it was embarrassing - the team looked totally unbalanced from the off, the defence was woeful and when Mikel came off injured it got even worse with nobody in front of them. Up front on several occasions we had opportunities and nobody would shoot - it was a complete farse! On the back of Salah's performance I'm glad there is talk of getting shot...

reat to see Tommy Rosicky getting some love. A wonderful player. Such a pity we lost so long to injury. I was so excited when we signed him, this resurgence only makes the absences seem more of a lost opportunity.
