Tom Huddlestone and Jake Livermore (centre): Hull new boys

Huddlestone, City's record signing at £5.25million, was persuaded to leave Tottenham by Bruce and Spurs team-mate Livermore has joined him on loan.

Bruce said the guaranteed first-team football the pair will get at the KC Stadium this season will be crucial at this stage of their career - and that they are rated by England manager Roy Hodgson.

Huddlestone, 26, who has represented England at every age range from Under-16 upwards, is desperate to add to his four senior caps, while 23-year-old Livermore has a solitary senior cap, earned in England's 2-1 win against Italy in 2012.

Ahead of Saturday's Premier League visit of Norwich, Bruce said: "Jake and Tom will benefit from playing week in, week out on the big stage.

"I know Roy (Hodgson) really likes Tom and Jake, and I think England has got to be the challenge for them."

Big opportunity

Competition for places in the England midfield is high with the likes of Steven Gerrard, Jack Wilshere, Frank Lampard and Tom Cleverley already in situ but Bruce said his players should be encouraged by the inclusion of players such as Southampton's Rickie Lambert.

He added: "Just because you're playing for a less fashionable club, doesn't mean that time on the pitch every week isn't going to benefit you.

"That's what they're here to do, they've left the bright lights of London to come and play every week."

Bruce sang the praises of Huddlestone in his performance against Chelsea at the weekend, which contributed significantly to the second-half improvement by the north-east outfit.

"You can see it straight away, he's a really wonderful footballer, and the same goes for Jake too", said Bruce.

"They've been at a club where they've been fringe players, but this move gives them a big opportunity."

ven if United were to sign CR7 & Messi to play upfront, the fact remains Fletcher and Cleverly are playing in midfield. That's where the problem is. Fletcher is too slow with an awful pass, while Cleverly is simply rubbish
