Jarvis targeting England call

West Ham winger Matt Jarvis is targeting a return to the England team and believes the club's summer transfer business will help him shed the "one-cap wonder" tag.

Sam Allardyce has spent big this summer in making the loan signing of Andy Carroll a permanent move from Liverpool as well as bringing in Stewart Downing, also from Anfield.

Now, Jarvis believes striking up a good relationship with the two will push him back into contention for another England call-up.

The former Wolves man ended an unwanted statistic in the opening day win over Cardiff by setting up Joe Cole for the opening goal, having created the most goalscoring chances without an assist last season.

However, with Carroll nearing fitness after an ankle injury, the 27-year-old hopes the two can fire West Ham up the table and catch Roy Hodgson's attention in the process.

"With the supply that we are capable of providing, Andy could score as many goals as he wants this season," said Jarvis in an interview in The Independent.

"It's great for a wide man to be able to look up and know that he is willing to run through brick walls to try and get on the end of a cross.

"We got Andy very early on in the summer and have just signed Stewart [Downing] so I think everyone is excited, especially after the season that we had last year."

With the 2014 World Cup just around the corner, the club's one-time record signing believes it will be a fantastic achievement for him to make the England squad again.

He added: "Hopefully I can play well for West Ham and give myself a chance of making the England squad.

"It's something that you always want if you've had the taste for it and now we are obviously in a Word Cup year as well so that would be a fantastic achievement."
