Lewin was appointed by Glenn Hoddle in 1996 after starting his career with Arsenal 10 years before after his predecessor Fred Street advised him to learn his profession.

His first match with England was against Moldova when David Beckham made his full international debut.

Lewin said: "It's just a great privilege and honour, to be in any game for England you feel proud, the hairs still stand on the back of your neck when you sing the national anthem.

"To think I've done 200 games is incredible. I started with Glenn Hoddle in 1996, we played Moldova away - most people remember because of David Beckham not me."

Lewin continued in his dual role until 2008, when the former Gunners schoolboy goalkeeper became England's first full-time physio.

"I signed for Arsenal in 1978 as a 14-year-old schoolboy, I went full-time at 16, got released when I was 18," Lewin added.

"Then through Fred Street who was the England physio at the time and the Arsenal physio at the time I made the decision to go into physiotherapy.

"I didn't know what to do, I didn't know whether to go into a lower division club and try and become a professional footballer, I spoke about joining the police force or becoming a physiotherapist, or a PE teacher was the other thing I thought about doing.

"Fred took me to one side and thought I'd be interested in physiotherapy and arranged for me to go to Guy's Hospital for an open day and I fell in love with it. I left Arsenal in '82 then I went and played at Barnet for a year.

"I played at Barnet whilst I went back to school and did my A Levels. I went to Guy's Hospital in '83, that's when Fred Street retired from Arsenal and then after invited me back to be their reserve team and youth team physio while I trained as a chartered physio."

hould have stayed because we carried him for 6.5 years. And then he has a breakthrough season, and was gone soon after. MU fans, you would be as disgusted had C Ronaldo left in 2007 and not 2009.

ood grief. Someone guessed that the form English player at the moment might be in his national side with some other players? And that's espionage? Now if they discovered that Emile Heskey was going to be in the starting line up.... at right back.... THAT would be espionage. Give it a rest Roy.
