Roy Hodgson: Keen for England to show their class

England were outplayed by Chile in a 2-0 friendly defeat on Friday and Hodgson is seeking a positive response against Joachim Low's side.

Low will be without a number of key players, including goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, captain Philipp Lahm and Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil.

Germany will still provide a stern test for England though, and Hodgson is keen for them to impress.

"Germany will ask massive questions of us," said Hodgson.

"But I am pretty sure that all of the XI who go out on Tuesday night will be anxious that they put any comparisons (with Germany) to bed.

"They will show they are every bit as good and that is what I believe they will be."

Hodgson has also been keen to offer his support to beleaguered goalkeeper Joe Hart, who has lost his place at Manchester City following a number of crucial mistakes.

Celtic keeper Fraser Forster played in the defeat to Chile but Hart will return to face Germany.

"He will be anxious to seize his chance and anxious to show everyone that he is still a very good goalkeeper," added Hodgson.

"Joe is in the right frame of mind to play.

"He has been fine in training and I know (goalkeeping coach) Dave Watson has been happy with him so I could only answer in the affirmative that he is fine.

"He is ready. The Chile game was Fraser Forster's chance to show what he can do but (Hart) knows it's his chance on Tuesday night.

"This is what (being) England manager has been like for me - selecting players who haven't played for a couple of weeks.

"Jermain Defoe played against Chile and he hasn't played for hardly any part of the season."

England duo Daniel Sturridge and Kyle Walker have confirmed they are fit to face Germany on Tuesday.

Striker Sturridge, 24, had been a doubt for the match at Wembley after suffering the knock while on duty for club side Liverpool. He missed Friday's 2-0 defeat to Chile as a result.

Tottenham's Walker, 23, also missed the loss to the South American side because of a muscle problem and was suspended for the previous match - a 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over Poland.

But Sturridge told reporters at a press conference on Sunday: "I've had a lot of treatment over the last few days and been working very hard to make sure I'm OK. I'm going to train today and I'm ready to go for the game.

"It is not a serious injury so I hope it doesn't linger on. I've been playing with it for the last couple of games and it has been hindering my performance. But it is not a problem for me, I'm delighted that the pain is not as bad and I'm looking forward to the game."

heyremind me of Utd's treble winning side. Swashbuckling and risk prone. We ha Jaap Stam to paper over the cracks at the back though. Not sure they have their Jaap yet.

he solution is to not feel sorry for any of Jabba, Gold or Sullivan. They're all deeply unpleasant and all deserve each other. If only West Ham would sign Barton and Suarez then no one would ever need to despise any other club.
