Wenger rubbishes FA rift talk

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insists he has no concerns over the amount of time Jack Wilshere played for England during their last two friendlies.

The midfielder has been used carefully by the Premier League leaders since returning from a long-term ankle injury last season.

But despite featuring for 71 minutes in the 2-0 defeat to Chile last Friday, and coming off the bench for the last 26 in Tuesday's 1-0 loss to Germany, Wenger is adamant the Football Association stuck to their agreement over his involvement in the Wembley double-header.

Wenger, who reports Wilshere fit to face third-placed Southampton on Saturday, told the Arsenal website: "First of all Jack is not injured, that was not the right information.

"Secondly, I have no problem with the Football Association. They respected completely what they told me and it was for Wilshere to play in one game and be on the bench in the other.

"They did that very well. So there is no misunderstanding there. They did exactly what we had agreed."

Wilshere, meanwhile, admits there can be no guarantees in the fight for selection in England's World Cup squad.

England play a friendly against Denmark in March before Roy Hodgson names his provisional 30-man squad for the World Cup on 13 May.

The competition for places in midfield looks particularly fierce, but the Arsenal midfielder knows that he has to keep his head down if he is to be certain of his ticket to Brazil.

"That is where you are going to get into the England World Cup squad - by playing well for your club, then you are going to get picked for your country," Wilshere said.

"You have seen over the last couple of months that the talent there is, even in the Under-21s, with Ravel Morrison and all these players coming through. You are never guaranteed and cannot rest on your laurels.

"You are only as good as your last game, they say, so when the time comes, I have to be on top form and there will be a lot of players looking to be as well.

"At club level, there are a lot of games, so we are not thinking about the World Cup at the moment."
