Roy Hodgson: England boss already has plans for game in Amazon

England were drawn in Group D and were handed a tie in the Amazon in the north of Brazil for their opening clash, something they had hoped to avoid.

The Three Lions' main training base will be in Rio de Janeiro throughout the tournament, from where they will travel to each of their games the day before, with the exception of the game in Manaus where they will make the trip two days ahead of the clash.

"We know it's a tough group, as most of the groups are, but we didn't want to be based up in the north," Hodgson told the FA's official website, whilst on a visit to the Teenage Cancer Trust unit at University College in London.

"We've already decided that we'll go with the team [to Manaus] two days before, not the usual one day before.

"But we've got one game up there in Manaus, which will be very interesting as it presents very different challenges to the games in Belo Horizonte and Sao Paulo, but we'll be ready for that.

"Manaus is on the edge of the Amazonian rainforest so it does pose a few more problems.

"But having said that, I can understand the Brazilians wanting to spread the World Cup around all of their major cities and Manaus is a major city in Brazil.

"As far as tourists are concerned, after Rio it might be one of the places everyone wants to go.

"So we should be thankful that we're going to have a chance to see another iconic Brazilian city and get to know it for a few days and hope that the preparation we do in terms of acclimatisation will stand us in good stead for a game against out European counterparts."

Hodgson revealed he will be travelling to the Amazon early next year with Team England managing director Adrian Bevington on a fact-finding mission, whilst they will also be in Miami, where their pre-World Cup base will be situated.

"I shall make a visit there before we have the workshop in February," he continued.

"I'll go early with Adrian Bevington and we'll also spend a day or so in Miami to check on our potential camp there before we go to Rio.

"We've already decided that we'll go with the team two days before, not the usual one day before and we hope that acclimatisation and the acclimatisation in Miami before will stand us in good stead."

I

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

H

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

Wenger hails important win

I

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
